Important clarification regarding certified search and tracking systems

Certification under SSF 1073 covers a complete search and tracking system, not just the physical tracking device. SBSC therefore wishes to clarify that certification only applies when the product is connected to an alarm receiving centre staffed around the clock.

Certified Search and Tracking Systems – SSF 1073

Search and tracking systems are used to locate and recover stolen vehicles, construction machinery and recreational boats, among other assets. For a system to be covered by certification under SSF 1073, the installed equipment must do more than simply display an object’s location.

Certification covers the entire system

SSF 1073, issued by the Swedish Theft Prevention Association (SSF), sets requirements for the entire system, from tracking equipment and installation to alarm reception and measures to recover stolen assets.

This means that a tracking device which is not connected to an alarm receiving centre staffed around the clock is not covered by the certification, even if the same product model forms part of a certified system.

The supplier is responsible for meeting the requirements

Since 2024, SBSC has been responsible for managing self-declarations and the certification process under SSF 1073.

Certification is based on the supplier’s self-declaration that the requirements of the standard have been met. The supplier is responsible for ensuring continued compliance with these requirements and for providing accurate information about the scope of certification.

To further clarify the scope of certification, SBSC has updated the information for the relevant certificates on its website. The affected certificate holders have also been informed about the certification conditions and the importance of providing clear information to customers.

Check what is included before purchasing

Anyone purchasing a search and tracking system should verify that the product is covered by a valid certificate and that the service required for certification is included. In particular, it is important to ensure that the product is connected to an alarm receiving centre staffed around the clock.

Visit SBSC’s certificate directory to search for valid certificates and learn more about certified products.
