The purpose of the appellate body is to provide for the need for an impartially composed and technically expert function with the task of recommending SBSC in certification matters which have been appealed. Matters are referred to the appellate body when – notwithstanding review by SBSC – the party bring the complaint remains dissatisfied with the result. The appellate body consists of a chairperson and the persons summoned by the chairperson to address a specific appellate matter.
The appellate body takes decisions regarding recommendations and certification matters which have been appealed. The recommendation is reported to the company’s managing director and the appellant. In the event the recommendation does not accord with SBSC’s position, the matter is referred to SBSC’s Board of Directors for a decision.
The Chair of the appellate body is Karin Fält (lawyer).
Each year, the certification committee for Svensk Brand- och Säkerhetscertifiering (SBSC) shall render an opinion as to whether SBSC’s certification activities can be regarded as taking place in accordance with SBSC’s claims regarding autonomy. In addition, the committee’s work constitutes part of the foundation of SBSC’s continuous improvement work.
As an accredited certification body, the autonomy, impartiality and perception as such are fundamental to SBSC. It is also essential to our operations that decisions are based on objective assessments of standards fulfilment. Our assessments and decisions may not be influenced by conflicting interests nor by persons or organizations.
Our revenues are generated exclusively from our certified customers. SBSC generates no revenues from end customers, the consumer market, or standards bodies.
In order to guarantee our impartiality, SBSC works systematically and continuously to identify, analyse and take necessary measures in order to minimize risks which may influence our impartiality.
Members of the certification committee shall represent in an impartial and objective way the interests affected by SBSC certification.
Svensk Brand- och Säkerhetscertifiering AB has granted the following organizations and authorities the right to appoint members and alternate members to the certification committee. Members are appointed for a term of two years. The names of the members are to be submitted to SBSC not later than one month prior to the next meeting.
